“Finding Peace In Chaos” Is one of the two essay options for the scholarship application process.
Throughout our lives, we often find ourselves in periods of “chaos”…. usually in the form of a mental chaos presented by an adverse situation, but sometimes even a physical form of “chaos”. One of the things Jory taught was the importance of being able to center yourself and find “peace in chaos”. A person’s ability to find peace and think clearly through adverse situations can greatly impact their success.
Here is what one of Jory’s students had to say:
“Finding peace in chaos” That was the quote that attracted me to my first Brazilian jujitsu class at Revolution MMA with Jory and Abby Malone. I was at a turning point in my life and I had just declared war on all my fears. Something about that quote spoke to me directly; he represented being able to focus in a calm state no matter what circumstances life would throw at you. It was not long after beginning training that I saw the importance in the truth behind that statement. Being able to control your fight or flight reflex and strategize under duress is an invaluable skill that not many sports can teach. You are literally defending yourself against attacks while being put in difficult situations where you have to problem solve in order to survive and beat your opponent. That skill not only saved my life in several instances, it gives me a certain confidence and centeredness that I carry with myself every day.”
